What Is SYSTEMK4 Dry Cleaning?
SYSTEMK4 is Kreussler’s PERC alternative for professional dry cleaning. It is a suite of three products designed to work together: SOLVONK4, a halogen-free dry cleaning solvent; CLIPK4, a concentrated detergent; and PRENETTK4, a pre-brushing agent. Kreussler’s R&D chemists in Germany developed it to clean as well as PERC without PERC’s unsafe attributes. It launched at Clean Show in 2011.

Why are dry cleaners moving away from PERC?
Perchloroethylene (PERC) was introduced in the 1930s and became the dry cleaning industry standard. Time has shown that it is unsafe. According to PopSci, OSHA guidance links acute exposure to PERC to dizziness, blurred vision, and loss of coordination. Even picking up a PERC-cleaned garment that was not properly dried can temporarily trigger those symptoms, and long-term exposure can trigger mild memory loss.
How was SYSTEMK4 developed and tested?
Kreussler’s experienced R&D chemists worked in the company’s laboratories in Germany to create a dry-cleaning alternative that cleans as well as PERC without the attributes that make it unsafe.
Before launching at Clean Show in 2011, SYSTEMK4 was tested in three places: Kreussler’s labs in Germany, a manufacturing plant in Italy, and in the field at dry cleaners in the United States. That global project brought in R&D chemists, machine manufacturers, and dry cleaners who use solvents every day, and each group added expertise to the final product.
What is SOLVONK4?
SOLVONK4 is the halogen-free solvent at the center of SYSTEMK4. Halogen-free means the material does not contain the halogen elements: fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and astatine.
SOLVONK4 is not classified as either a hazardous material or a hazardous substance. It is biodegradable, and it has been tested dermatologically with the result “Very Good.” Kreussler reports that its cleaning effect is the same as PERC, and sometimes even better. [CONFIRM: substantiation for the PERC comparison before publishing]
